OCTOBER ONE SKEIN OF THE MONTH BLOG

In September, we worked with Gusto Yarn’s “Echoes”. It is a beautiful yarn, but skinny! We thought we'd change things up this month and go big! The yarn that we are featuring this month is Berroco’s “Remix Chunky”. This cool yarn is made from 100% recycled fibers (nylon, cotton, acrylic, silk, linen) and it is soft and sturdy: the perfect combination for big projects like blankets, and really fun for the one-skein projects we are featuring this month! Since it's our featured yarn, it's 20% off ALL MONTH, too!

The crochet project is an adorable basket called “Bondi Basket” by Loopy Handmade. The pattern is available on Ravelry.com for about $5.09. This is a beginner friendly crochet project that Amy made in one night! (Probably would have taken me a little longer since Amy is a pro and I’m a beginner). Amy held two strands of yarn together and crocheted with a size N hook to create the stiffer fabric and make the sides stand up so nicely. She also added an extra row to the pattern to make it a bit taller.  It used just about the whole skein! This basket is the perfect size for a small knitting project, or for decorating, or to hold odds & ends to tidy up your counters.

The knit project for this month is “Recycled Jar Covers” by Leigh Radford and is available as a free download on Ravelry.com.  It is exactly what it sounds like:  a sweater for your jars! They will never be cold again! The pattern offers several different designs and has tips for customizing the size to fit your jar. I made the cabled option for a mason jar. I didn’t make as many increases as the pattern called for at the bottom and added a couple extra purl stitches between some of the cables to make the cover fit just right.  I used just under half of the skein, so you know I’ll be making another one really soon!
