Fiber arts: Fabric and Yarn, Quilting, Knitting and More – are what you will find at Wooden Spools! We are physically located in Englewood (Denver) Colorado. We just celebrated our 3-year anniversary at our retail storefront location!
There are two main components to Wooden Spools, both online and in-store - the Quilting/Fabric side and the Knitting & Crochet/Yarn side.
We were originally inspired to create Wooden Spools in 2010, after a chance conversation about how expensive our quilting hobbies had become. We also realized how much we quilters spend on fabric that just ends up in our stashes - sitting on shelves “to be used someday”. So, we began to buy "stash" fabric from quilters. We're pretty picky - it must be "quilt shop quality" unused - unwashed, and in that same condition as it was when it originally was purchased off the bolt!
The result is an ever-changing selection of fabric which includes both recently produced designs all the way back to vintage feed sack fabric!
We've had some wonderful success stories with customers who have been able to find an exact match for a fabric they needed to complete a project from many years ago. You can always e-mail us if you are looking for a match!
The Wooden Spools idea expanded when we decided to offer an extensive selection of yarn as well. Just as with the fabric – you’ll find out-of-production colors and styles – in addition to current selections, all at great prices. We don't purchase yarn from individuals, but rather find close-outs from stores or discontinued items from manufacturers. We look for quality, affordable yarn that we are proud to offer for sale. We carry many current lines of yarn at "regular" prices (in addition to close-out) because really, who can resist yummy new offerings from Noro, for example :-) We also are very fond of having sales - and passing along savings, so keep your eyes (and email boxes) open for opportunities there.
Our real mission is to make these hobbies that we enjoy so much affordable again! Oh, and by the way, that's where our name came from! When you think of actual "wooden spools" and remember the days when thread was always on wooden spools ... things were much more affordable then, weren't they?
In 2011, we expanded our physical space and added a spacious classroom that we call "The Spool Room". You'll see classes listed here on our webstore - and we have had many "out-of-towners" join us for classes or open-sew times while they are here visiting!
Our inventory is ever evolving – so you’ll want to visit our website often! Better yet, subscribe to our email newsletter and you'll be the first to find out about new products and special offers.
